I’ve spent the last few years working with the lgbtq+ community, family and youth (ranging from toddlers to 18 year olds), supporting adults in breaking the cycle of abuse, and helping people better understand and manage their mood disorders (anxiety, depression, bipolar, etc). I have worked in a very rural area where I was one of only a few therapists; which meant that I had to learn how to meet the needs of a diverse set of clients. As a result I’m a bit of a “generalist” and try to be adaptable. I’m not afraid to seek out trainings if I feel a client needs more from me. The most common feedback I get from my clients is that I create a space which feels safe and peaceful. I have also been laughingly told that I’m not afraid to call a person out, as I’m willing to push and challenge when someone needs it. Honesty doesn’t need to be a judgement, and being honest with oneself is necessary to grow and heal. I know I’m doing my job well when therapy truly feels like a collaboration. At the end of the day you’re the only one who can live your life, so I’m here to be a guide and a support–while you’re the leader.
