Hi there! Choosing a therapist can be so difficult and it’s important to find someone who you feel seen and heard by. We may be a good fit if you are queer, neurodiverse, have a complicated relationship with family, or feel like you don’t quite fit in anywhere. I hope to support my clients with finding meaning, fulfillment, and purpose in their lives whether that be healing past wounds, making sense of ones’ identity, or navigating life transitions. You also don’t need to know exactly what you’re looking for or need, that can be a valuable part of the process too.
Collaboration, non-judgement, and safety are core principles in my work. The work I do with clients is trauma-informed, highly relational, and leaves space for the nuances of diverse experience and existentialism. I integrate a variety of approaches, and ultimately, I want you to feel truly seen and heard in our work together.
It may be helpful to know that I am queer and neurodiverse, and these lenses inform my practice. I work with individuals, couples, poly and other non-traditional relationships. I am also interested in working with parent and adult child relationships. If what you’ve read has resonated and you wish to work together or have further questions please reach out!

I work with people ages 15 and older on a myriad of topics. I am especially interested in working with interracial relationships, first/second generation immigrants, queer folx, BIPOCs, men, and sex workers. Areas of specialities include mindfulness, BDSM, gender, ethical non-monogamy, social justice, anxiety, depression, sex therapy, neurodiversity, and trauma.
I provide therapy that is grounded in social justice, queer and feminist theories, and cultural humility. My approach to therapy uses a blend of narrative, attachment-based, and body-focused techniques. In working with intimate relationships, I additionally draw from Emotion Focused and Gottman Method therapies. To put it simply, this means I place you at the center of your own story. I incorporate mind-body connection, emotional experiences, and relationships of all kinds into the therapy space. I truly believe that you deserve to live your best life, and I am here to offer whatever help I may toward that end. I completed my M.S. in marriage and family therapy with a focus on sex therapy at the University of Wisconsin-Stout.
As a child of immigrant parents, I have lived my life in multiple cultures, giving me a unique perspective to the ways in which race, ethnicity, and socioeconomic class may impact someone’s experiences. Due to my own upbringing and education, I work to include these same aspects of life into the therapy room. I don’t presume to know exactly what my clients have been through, but I do know what it is like to navigate the world in a body that has judgments thrust upon it. I want to use that knowledge to validate my clients’ identities and offer support or, possibly, new understandings of the ways these experiences influence the rest of their lives. Though social justice and anti-racism work inform much of my practice, my values rest on centering and working with all forms of marginalization (race, gender, sexuality, class, ability, etc.).

Dr. Alan Johnson is a licensed psychologist in the state of Texas. He earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology from Michigan State University in 2009 and his master’s and doctoral degrees in clinical psychology from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology in 2011 and 2014, respectively. He has received training and been employed in a variety of clinical settings, which have included residential treatment centers (RTCs), intensive outpatient programs (IOPs), university counseling centers, private practices, and nursing homes. His primary specialties include gender, sexual, and romantic minorities (GSRM), addiction and recovery, concerns related to eating, weight, and size (CREWS), and psychological evaluations.
Through an integrative approach utilizing humanistic-existential, cognitive-behavioral, and psychodynamic theories as well as other therapeutic techniques, Dr. Johnson’s goal is to create a safe and accepting environment that allows clients to achieve their goals based upon the foundations of embracing diversity, promoting change, and fostering authenticity. Through research, presentations, and involvement with nonprofit organizations, he is committed to reducing stigma associated with mental health, identifying as a gender, sexual, and/or romantic minority, and HIV/AIDS.

I see clients in-person in Philadelphia and virtually within the state of Pennsylvania. I work with adolescents 14+ and adults of all ages and backgrounds. I am particularly interested in supporting folks in navigating their relationships with their bodies and sexualities during times of change, loss, and transition. As a queer, non-binary therapist, I enjoy working with clients of all genders, on all journeys. I am poly-friendly, kink-friendly, fat positive, and sex worker positive. I love working with couples, close friends, and non-traditional relationships. I also enjoy working with fellow artists.
I bring a warm, permission-giving, and playful energy to the therapy space. My approach is relational and attachment-based. I specialize in gender and sexuality, relationship issues, sexual challenges, and grief and loss. I practice with an intersectional lens and seek to understand my clients within the context of their identities and histories.
I currently do not take insurance, though I’m happy to provide a superbill for clients with out-of-network benefits seeking reimbursement. I provide therapy in English.

My practice focuses on working with tech folks, as well as members of often marginalized communities such as queer, polyamorous, or other spiritualities. I also have experience working with veterans and soldiers. I focus as a therapist on positive growth and change to help clients live their best lives. I understand that some people are looking to enhance their quality of life, become happier, or otherwise grow and change in new directions. Others struggle with difficulties, either at home, at work, or with friends and family. I’m not interested in pathologizing people, treating them as broken or sick.
I believe we have a natural urge towards wholeness and growth, even at our lowest points or when we’re the most troubled. I want to work with you to help find this inherent wholeness and foster it. This involves talking and processing in a shared space where people can feel deeply heard and understood with a profound sense of caring.
I focus on techniques and methods that draw from many practices in therapy. I use secular mindfulness practices and have trained as a mindfulness instructor. I am also trained in Internal Family Systems (IFS), Motivational Interviewing, and attachment repair, and within the growing psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy (PAP) movement for integration and support.

I am a sex positive non-judgmental, kink affirmative, poly friendly counselor. I have worked with many polyamorous clients individually and in relationship groups. I specialize in working with teen and adult males in individual therapy. Areas of concentration within male psychotherapy include anxiety, stress, anger, addiction, relational issues, behavioral issues, fatherhood, sex and sexuality, and career issues. As a married, new father, I offer a particularly personal empathetic space for men struggling with challenges such as parenthood preparation, life transition, self-care, conflict management, navigating gender roles, and career and relationship concerns.
I have both clinical and personal experience with substance abuse, which has given me an intimate perspective on working with individual struggling with addiction. This includes substance abuse or other addiction’s other forms, such as workaholism, porn, social media, eating, etc.
I also specialize in working with creatives and public figures. Prior to obtaining my master’s degree, I spent over a decade in the entertainment industry. This has given me experience with the challenges faced by creative individuals and public figures, such as perfectionism, burnout, professional vs personal identities, self-acceptance, and isolation and loneliness.
In addition, I have diverse clinical experience with a variety of populations that also includes treating depression, suicidality, gender and sexual identity issues, childhood trauma, psychosis, personality disorders, existential crises, and coping with end-of-life.
I am sex-positive and LGBTQ+ affirmative. I utilize a trauma-informed, nonjudgmental, harm-reduction approach, incorporating elements of spirituality such as mindfulness and acceptance. I tailor treatment to each individual, always working at a pace comfortable to them. I don’t shy away from exploring complex personal challenges, which can often carry with them feelings of shame or guilt.
