My name is Lexy Thompson with BrightLife Counseling and I am a licensed professional counselor. I’ve been working with people to help them live the lives they want for over 12 years. I work with people to manage moods and feelings, move through grief and trauma, recover from substance use and addiction, and improve relationships.
I am sex-positive and have experience working with people in many kinds of relationships including non-monogamous ones. I support and identify with the LGBTQ community. I believe you deserve to feel empowered in your world, to discover what you want your life to be, and to have the tools and support to live the life that is right for you.
I think mental health care is too hard to access, too slow, and too expensive. I want to make therapy convenient and affordable for everyone who wants help making changes for themselves.
I accept insurance and the list of insurance plans I work with is always growing! Please reach out to me to see if I accept your insurance plan. More info on my self pay rates can be found on my website.

I specialize in working with teen and adult males in individual therapy. Areas of concentration within male psychotherapy include anxiety, stress, anger, addiction, relational issues, behavioral issues, fatherhood, sex and sexuality, and career issues. As a married, new father, I offer a particularly personal empathetic space for men struggling with challenges such as parenthood preparation, life transition, self-care, conflict management, navigating gender roles, and career and relationship concerns.
I have both clinical and personal experience with substance abuse, which has given me an intimate perspective on working with individual struggling with addiction. This includes substance abuse or other addiction’s other forms, such as workaholism, porn, social media, eating, etc.
I also specialize in working with creatives and public figures. Prior to obtaining my master’s degree, I spent over a decade in the entertainment industry. This has given me experience with the challenges faced by creative individuals and public figures, such as perfectionism, burnout, professional vs personal identities, self-acceptance, and isolation and loneliness.
In addition, I have diverse clinical experience with a variety of populations that also includes treating depression, suicidality, gender and sexual identity issues, childhood trauma, psychosis, personality disorders, existential crises, and coping with end-of-life.
I am sex-positive and LGBTQ+ affirmative. I utilize a trauma-informed, nonjudgmental, harm-reduction approach, incorporating elements of spirituality such as mindfulness and acceptance. I tailor treatment to each individual, always working at a pace comfortable to them. I don’t shy away from exploring complex personal challenges, which can often carry with them feelings of shame or guilt.

We all know need more self-care, but few of us really know what it is that means. I help clients evaluate what they need to improve their quality of life and identify what is blocking them, whether it is establishing better boundaries, slowing down, building more self-compassion or learning the practice of mindful living. Most of us can benefit from reflection, learning to put space between emotional responses and reactions; and can use a break from thoughts. I help clients evaluate their inner narratives and empower them to build a life that honors their core value system and personal uniqueness.
I work with many adolescents, teenagers and individual adults, both male and female. My modalities primarily are CBT and DBT, with a strong concentration on mindfulness and positive affirmation skill training. My areas of focus include: anxiety, self-compassion, self-harm and trauma. I work with clients who have non-traditional relationships and jobs. I consider myself sex-positive and gender affirming. I work closely with the LGBTQIA+ and queer community. I am also an avid animal lover, passionate scuba diver, cheese connoisseur and world traveler.
